The tale of Banbury’s cold mount.... A tale of a noble, baleful and beautiful lady waiting in her tower for news of her knight who never returns,…….. a tale of the crown of England … Arthur’s legacy ....thrown into hazard over the affections of a buxom  Banbury chambermaid… ….a tale of wilym Ddu', Black William Herbert and the last charge of the Nobles of Wales... the rebel Robin of Redesdale and his archers. Edgcote’s bruising, bloody, brutal, battle, the nadir of Knights and Nobles, a tale of love, betrayal, lust and longing, a story of noble feats of arms and foul, flagrant murder …. this  very field and babbling brook, running red from the wounds on the rent and wretched bodies of 3000 dead nobles, men at arms and archers, ,. ….a prophesy discredited and a old woman’s curse fulfilled. This is England not Lyonesse… this is Banbury, not Baydon and yet the truth of what happened here… is as strange as any ancient adventure of Arthur. “                                  Sir Thomas Malory’s speech from the play “The Battle of Banbury Field” .
